Tectorius® Tec-U-Seal™ 587: Improving Clamp Load Assurance in Critical Construction

Challenge

In highly critical applications such as bridge and structural assembly, safety and reliability demand an extra level of clamp load assurance. Traditional fastening methods can leave uncertainty as to whether bolts have achieved the required tightness, creating risks in both performance and safety. Engineering teams needed a way to provide visual confirmation that each bolt was tightened to specification.

Solution

Tectorius® partnered with leading washer manufacturer to address this challenge by combining our specialized polymer expertise with innovative self-indicating washer technology (sometimes known as a “squirt washer”). The result is adoption of Tec-U-Seal™ 587 as the superior system for clamp load assurance (see ViewTite® washer system).

The concept is straightforward yet powerful: once proper clamp load of a joint is achieved, the compression forces a brightly colored indicating material to the perimeter of the washer. This simple visual cue removes doubt, ensuring that each fastener is properly tightened. In dark, confined areas, Tec-U-Seal 587 makes inspection easy. Designed with a special coloration formula, Tec-U-Seal glows brightly under Black Light (UV) exposure.
