Tec-Bond® 261 secures threaded fasteners to prevent loosening caused by vibration and dynamic loads in demanding environments. A water-based, REACH and RoHS compliant alternative to Tec-Bond® 251 solvent-based thread locker, designed for progressive manufacturing.
Tec-Bond® 261 is a water-based microencapsulated thread adhesive engineered to replace traditional solvent-based chemistry without compromising performance. It is compatible with a wide range of substrates including steel, zinc, and plated surfaces, with Precision Grade variants extending performance to titanium, stainless steel, special alloys, and plastics. Suitable for high-heat applications with extendedtemperature resistance beyond standard thread lockers.
TEC-Bond® 261 may be used as a water-based alternative to solvent-based fastener adhesives such as Tec-Bond® 251 and 3M® 2510 thread adhesive.

Performance, Advantages and Benefits
Epoxy Chemistry: Delivers reliable high torque with excellent retention and strong resistance to heat, fluids, vibration, and shock, ensuring durable structural bonding.
Advanced Microencapsulation Technology: Provides long shelf life, activation at installation, and reusability, offering convenient, dry-to-the-touch, low-effort use.
Flow-on Coating: Enables controlled application. Viscosity can be adjusted to achieve target coating weights. Provides good adhesion to most fastener finishes, delivering a versatile, hazard-free solution.
What is the difference between Tec-Bond® 261-IN and 261-PR?
The Industrial Grade (261-IN) is suited for general-purpose fastener locking on standard metal substrates. The Precision Grade (261-PR) was developed for small precision assemblies requiring highly defined physical properties or that involve high tech substrates such as titanium, stainless steel, special alloys, or plastics where enhanced adhesion is required.
How does Tec-Bond® 261 differ from Tec-Bond® 251?
Tec-Bond®261 is the direct water-based alternative to Tec-Bond® 235. It delivers equivalent locking performance using solvent-free, RoHs and REACH compliant environmentally friendly chemistry, making it suitable for manufacturers transitioning to sustainable processes.
Can Tec-Bond® 261 be pre-applied to fasteners in bulk?
Yes. Tec-Bond® 261 is available as a pre-applied microencapsulated coating applied at Tectorius service centers. Coated fasteners remain dormant until installation, activating only when the fastener is torqued.
Can Tec-Bond® 261 be pre-applied by hand?
Yes. Tec-Bond® 261-IN is perfect for small runs, saving you from costly machine application. Simply brush or roll the adhesive onto the fastener threads and allow to dry. Once applied, parts have a shelf life of 1 year or more, so you can prepare batches in advance.
