Tec-Lok™ 100 Series

Powdered and Liquid Nylon Locking Patches

Tec-Lok™ 100 Series provides reliable thread locking and sealing through a process-applied nylon deposit on the threaded portion of fasteners. Available in powder and liquid nylon grades, this non-reactive thread locker keeps fasteners serviceable and removable while resisting most motor fluids, solvents, and harsh environments. Custom color options allow for easy part, brand, and assembly identification.

Tec-Lok™ 100 Series is a nylon locking patch fused to fastener threads to prevent unintended loosening. The position and length of patch are variable to suit application requirements, with coverage from 90 to 360 degrees around the part. The 100 Series is available in both powder-applied and liquid-applied grades to accommodate a wide range of manufacturing processes and fastener types.

  • Nylon patch coverage from 90 to 360 degrees; full 360-degree application increases locking security, promotes sealing, and helps prevent galling and galvanic corrosion.
  • Resists most automotive fluids including oil, water, antifreeze, gasoline, and most chemicals.
  • Non-reactive formulation keeps fasteners fully serviceable and removable with up to 15 on-off cycles.
  • Wide range of color options available for company, customer, or part identification.
  • Patch position and length are customizable to meet specific assembly requirement.

The Tec-Lok™ 100 Series liquid can be applied by the user for small or special runs.

Liquid Nylon grades share all the features of powdered nylon patch with additional manufacturing advantages:

  • Lower curing temperature means little to no plating discoloration.
  • Water-based formula is cleaner and safer than powder application.
  • Multiple viscosities and color selections are available to meet assembly and identification needs.

Automotive Assembly: Thread locking on body, powertrain and chassis fasteners in passenger vehicle and light truck manufacturing.

Industrial Manufacturing: Electric motors, compressors, fluid power systems, mechanical assemblies, and gear systems requiring serviceable thread locking.

Industrial Maintenance and Repair: Field service and remanufacturing assemblies where fastener removability and reusability are required.

Electronics and Precision Assembly: Low-torque fastener applications requiring controlled locking force and part identification by color.

Operational Temperatures: -57°C to 121°C (-71°F to 250°F)

Material: Nylon

Primary Usage: Lock and seal

Shelf Life: Indefinite on-part shelf life under ideal storage conditions [4 to 32°C (40 to 90°F)]. Recertification is required once per year.

Reusability: Up to 15 on-off cycles

Hardness: Shore D (ASTM D2240) 70-80 Durometer

Dielectric Strength: (ASTM D149 short time) 800-1200 volts/mil @ 10.0 mils  (varies with color)

Taber Abrasion: (ASTM D4060) 10-18 mg loss, CS-10 wheel, 1000g load, 1000  cycles (varies with color)

Direct Impact Resistance: (MPTM 0002) 160 in. lbs. @ 10.0 mils

Salt Spray Resistance: (ASTM B117) 1000+ hours (X Scribe)

Performance, Advantages and Benefits

Flexible Coverage: Patch coverage from 90 to 360 degrees allows precise control over locking torque and sealing performance. Full 360-degree application provides the most secure lock and helps prevent galling and galvanic corrosion between mating threads.

Liquid Nylon Grades: Liquid Nylon Grades bring the performance of the nylon powder to the liquid-applied manufacturing processes. Lower curing temperature reduces the risk of plating discoloration. The water-based formula simplifies cleanup and improves safety versus powder. Multiple viscosity options allow the grade to be matched to specific application equipment and target coating weights.

Broad Chemical Resistance: Oil, water, antifreeze, gasoline and most common automotive and industrial chemicals have virtually no effect on the 100 Series, making it suitable for use in wet, contaminated, or chemically demanding environments.

Serviceability: Up to 15 on-off cycles support maintenance and repair workflows where fastener reuse is required, reducing replacement costs in field service and remanufacturing operations.

What is the difference between powdered nylon and liquid nylon grades in the 100 Series?

Powdered nylon grades (100-104, 119) are applied by a dry powder fusion process and are suited for high-volume automated coating lines. Liquid nylon grades (105-114, 120) are applied by flow, dip, flood, brush or metered dispenser and cure at lower temperatures, which reduces the risk of plating discoloration and simplifies cleanup. Both deliver equivalent locking and sealing performance once installed.

What does 360 patch coverage provide compared to partial coverage?

Full 360-degree coverage produces a more secure thread lock by engaging the patch around the entire circumference of the fastener. It also promotes a more complete seal against fluid ingress and helps prevent galling and galvanic corrosion between mating metal surfaces.

How many times can a Tec-Lok™ 100 Series fastener be removed and reinstalled?

Up to 15 on-off cycles are supported under standard conditions. This makes the 100 Series well suited for assemblies that require periodic maintenance or inspection.

What is the on-part shelf life of Tec-Lok™ 100 Series coated fasteners?

Shelf life is indefinite under ideal storage conditions of 4 to 32°C (40 to 90°F). Recertification is required once per year.

Can the patch position and length be customized?

Yes. The position and length of the patch are variable and can be specified to suit the requirements of individual fastener designs and assembly applications.
